In 2006, a plan involving the preservation of thirty-six houses from the Templar colony in Tel-Aviv, and reconstruction of their periodic image, was approved. In order to expand Kaplan St. road, five Templar buildings were displaced to a new location by a complicated engineering operation. The Sarona complex now serves as a cultural, recreational and shopping center, and in its heart is a tourist center that tells the vicissitude history of the site and its significance as a National Legacy Site.
Sarona combines impressive historical architecture with a dynamic urban experience and forms a cultural, commercial and recreational center in a quiet atmosphere. The reconstructed colony includes and urban park that accurately preserves the original thirty-seven buildings of the Templar colony, which today turned into cafés, restaurants, art galleries and unique shops.
